How effective are Orapenem fine granules 10% from Japan for children (tebipenem pivoxil, antibiotic)?
Orapenem granules contain tebipenem pivoxil, first orally available antibiotic of a carbapenem class. It is rapidly converted to the active form in plasma and enterocytes and has a broad spectrum of action. Orapenem granules are particularly known for their ability to treat multidrug-resistant Gram-negative pathogens, including quinolone-resistant Enterobacteriaceae.
Who should take Orapenem fine granules 10% from Japan?
Orapenem granules are effective for the treatment of pneumonia, otitis media and sinusitis in pediatric patients. This medicine can be used even for the bacteria resistant to other antibiotics. Studies showed that in children with community-acquired pneumonia tebipenem significantly lowers body temperature on the day following initial administration and reduces leukocyte counts and C-reactive protein levels by day 2-4 of the treatment (H. Sakata, H. Kuroki et al. “Pediatric community-acquired pneumonia treated with a three-day course of tebipenem pivoxil”. Journal of Infection and Chemotherapy. 2017, May;23(5): 307-311).
