Medical effect: Decadron tablets are effective for improving of the following conditions:

Contraindications and precautions: do not use for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Do not use in patients with infection, systemic mycosis, peptic ulcer, psychosis, tuberculosis, herpes simplex keratitis, posterior capsular cataract, glaucoma, hypertension, thrombosis, uncontrolled diabetes or swelling tendency. Do not use for patients who have recently received any surgery to internal organs. Do not use in patients with a history of acute myocardial infarction. Please not that varicella or measles may lead to a serious state when using this medicine. If an allergic reaction occurs, stop taking the medicine and consult with your doctor. If you’re taking any other medication, please consult with your doctor before use.

Dosage and administration of Decadron tablets 0.5 mg from Japan (dexamethasone, corticosteroid)

For pain, inflammation and allergic symptoms: for adults, take 1-16 tablets (0.5 to 8 mg of the active ingredient) a day, dividing into 1-4 doses. The dosage may be adjusted by the consulting doctor according to disease, age and symptoms.

Nausea and vomiting caused by antitumor treatment: for adults, take 8-40 tablets (4 to 20 mg of the active ingredient) a day, dividing into 1-2 times. Never exceed the daily maximum dosage of 40 tablets (20 mg).

Decadron tablets contain dexamethasone, a synthetic pregnane corticosteroid and derivative of cortisol. It works as an agonist of the glucocorticoid receptor, mimicking anti-inflammatory hormones produced by the body. Decadron tablets are effective for the treatment of many inflammatory and autoimmune disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis and bronchospasm, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, croup and many others.

Decadron tablets increase the antiemetic effect of 5-HT3 receptor antagonists, such as ondansetron, and counteract the development of brain edema. That’s why this medicine is used for the improving the side effects of the antitumor treatment, especially, for brain tumor. Also, studies showed that using dexamethasone reduces the mortality in patients with COVID-19 (J. A. Sterne, S. Murthy et al. "Association Between Administration of Systemic Corticosteroids and Mortality Among Critically Ill Patients With COVID-19: A Meta-analysis". JAMA. 2020; 324(13): 1330-1341). Consequently, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the World Health Organization (WHO) recommend using it in people with severe and critical COVID-19.
