Medical effect: Canaglu tablets are effective for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Contraindications and precautions: do not use in the following categories of patients:

• pregnant and breastfeeding women,
• patients with type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis,
• patients with ketosis, diabetic coma or precoma,
• patients with infection or injury,
• patients in the pre-/post-operative period,
• patients with severe renal impairment or patients on dialysis.

As this medicine may cause hypoglycemic symptoms, take care in working with dangerous mechanisms or driving a car. If hypoglycemic symptoms occur, quickly take a sufficient amount of sugar. If you concurrently take some medicine that delays absorption of sugar, in case of hypoglycemic symptoms take glucose.

As this medicine may cause dehydration, it’s important to keep the patient well hydrated while taking this medication.

For adults, take 1 tablet at a time, once a day before or after breakfast.

How effective are Japanese Canaglu tablets 100 mg for type 2 diabetes (canagliflozin, Invokana)?

Canaglu tablets contain canagliflozin hydrate, a sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. It works by inhibiting the protein SGLT2 which reabsorbs glucose in the kidney. By this, Canaglu tablets effectively reduce blood glucose through the excretion of excess glucose into urine.

Canaglu tablets help to control blood sugar in patients with type 2 diabetes. When used together with diet and exercise, they help to reduce the risk of major heart-related events such as heart attack, stroke, or heart-related death and to reduce the risk of end-stage kidney disease or worsening of kidney function.
