Medical effect: Tamsulosin hydrochloride are effective for the treatment of prostatic hyperplasia and impaired urination caused by it, and also can be used for the treatment of kidney stones.

As this medicine may cause sleepiness, the patient should take care when working at heights, operating dangerous machinery, or driving a car.

Dosage and administration

For impaired urination associated with prostatic hyperplasia: for adults, take 2 tablets (0.2mg of the active ingredient) at a time, once daily after a meal. The doctor in charge may adjust the dose according to patient’s age and symptoms.

For other indications: the dose and frequency should be prescribed by the consulting doctor.

Do not chew as it is a sustained-release preparation. Swallow the medicine with water or lukewarm water

This medicine may be taken without water. If so, moisten it with saliva on the tongue, then lightly squash with the tongue, and swallow with saliva. However, do not take it without water while in lying position.

Tamsulosin hydrochloride is a selective α1 receptor antagonist. It works by blocking activity on α1 receptors in the urethra and prostate and relaxing the muscles in the prostate and the bladder. This medicine provides the following effects:

• Tamsulosin hydrochloride tablets relieve the difficulty in beginning the flow of urine,
• Help to treat the weak stream,
• Reduce the need to urinate often or urgently (including during the middle of the night),
• Promote the recovery after removing the catheter and prevent re-catheterization.

However, this medicine does not shrink the enlarged prostate and is not recommended for prevention of prostate cancer.

Tamsulosin hydrochloride tablets are used for the treatment of various urination problems caused by the prostatic hyperplasia. Also, this medicine helps to expulse kidney stones, to shorten the expulsion time and to decrease pain intensity. Studies showed that tamsulosin is particularly beneficial without lithotripsy for ureteral stones 5 to 10 mm and post-lithotripsy for renal or ureteral stones of more than 10 mm (R. R. Kolski, W. H.
