Medical effect: Iscotin tablets are effective for treatment of following diseases and conditions:

• active form of tuberculosis,
• latent form of tuberculosis,
• preventing tuberculosis in patients with HIV or patients with purified protein derivative reaction of at least 5 mm induration,
• treatment of atypical types of mycobacteria, such as M. avium, M. kansasii, and M. xenopi.

Contraindications and precautions: do not use in patients with liver or kidney diseases, convulsing disorders, blood disorders or alcoholism. When used in pregnant or breastfeeding women, the treatment should be performed under the supervision of the consulting doctor, considering benefits and risks. Should be taken with caution in patients prone to depression or mood disorders. If you are taking any other medications, please consult with your doctor before use.

Dosage and administration of Japanese Iscotin tablets 100 mg for tuberculosis. In general, take 1-5 tablets, dividing in 1-3 times a day, every day or 2 times a week. The consulting doctor may adjust the dosage according to symptoms. But the maximum dosage of 10 tablets a day for adults and 20 mg of active ingredient per 1 kg of weigh for children under 13 years old must not be exceeded.

For active form of tuberculosis, Iscotin tablets can be used together with rifampicin, pyrazinamide, and either streptomycin or ethambutol. For latent form of tuberculosis, in general, it’s enough to use isoniazid only. When used for active form of tuberculosis in pregnant or breastfeeding women or other patients in risk group, the medication should be taken together with vitamin B6 in its pyridoxine form.

Iscotin tablets can be used for both active and latent form of tuberculosis. For treatment of latent form, it’s usually enough to use Iscotin tablets only. For active form of tuberculosis, we recommend to use this medication together with rifampicin, pyrazinamide, and either streptomycin or ethambutol.

One of the most useful features of isoniazid is its suitability for pregnant and lactating women. Japanese specialists do not recommend to use it for prevention of tuberculosis or for treatment of the latent form. But for active form of tuberculosis in pregnant or breastfeeding women, it’s possible to use it in dosage not exceeding 10 mg of active ingredient per 1 kg of weight per day.
