How effective are Allopurinol tablets 50 mg from Japan for hyperuricemia (gout, uric acid level)?
Allopurinol is an isomer of hypoxanthine, a purine naturally occurring in the body. By interfering with purine metabolism, it suppresses the production of uric acid. As allopurinol does not belong to the uricosuric group, it can be used even for patients with renal dysfunction, though the monitoring of doctor in charge is required.
Who should use Allopurinol tablets 50 mg from Japan?
Allopurinol tablets are effective for lowering the uric acid blood level. Subsequently, this medicine helps to treat hyperuricemia caused by gout and hypertension accompanied with hyperuricemia. Multiple clinical trials involving more than 4500 patients showed that Allopurinol tablets significantly increase the proportion of patients achieving a target serum urate level within 30 days (R. Seth, A. Kydd et al. “Allopurinol for chronic gout”. Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2014, 10: CD006077).
