Medical effect: Rabeprazole Na tablets are effective for the following purposes:

• treatment of gastric ulcer,
• treatment of duodenal ulcer,
• relieving pain and heartburn caused by reflux esophagitis,
• treatment of anastomotic ulcer,
• treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome,
• eradication of Helicobacter pylori.

Contraindications and precautions: do not use for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Do not use for patients with liver problems.

If an allergic reaction occurs, stop taking the medicine and consult with your doctor. If you’re taking any other medication or receiving any other treatment, you have to consult with your doctor before use.

Dosage and administration of Rabeprazole Na tablets 10 mg from Japan for ulcer and Helicobacter pylori (Aciphex, Pariet, Rafron)

For gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, anastomotic ulcer, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: for adults, take 1 tablet (10 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, once a day. The doctor in charge may increase the dosage up to 2 tablets (20 mg), once a day. For patients with gastric ulcer and anastomotic ulcer the duration of treatment should be within 8 weeks, for patients with duodenal ulcer within 6 weeks.

For treatment of reflux esophagitis: for adults, take 1 tablet (10 mg) at a time, once a day. The doctor in charge may increase the dosage up to 2 tablets (20 mg), once a day. The usual duration of treatment is 8 weeks. If the results are insufficient, the doctor in charge may prescribe 1-2 tablets (10-20 mg) at a time, 2 times a day for another 8 weeks. However, a dose of 2 tablets (20 mg) at a time, 2 times a day is only used in patients with severe mucosa injury.

For maintenance therapy of reflux esophagitis: For patients with repeatedly worsening or relapsing reflux esophagitis, take 1 tablet (10 mg) at a time, once a day. If the results are insufficient, take 1 tablet (10 mg) at a time, 2 times a day as maintenance therapy.

For non-erosive gastroesophageal reflux disease: for adults, take 1 tablet (10 mg) at a time, once daily. Duration of taking the medicine is up to 4 weeks.

For helping to eradicate Helicobacter pylori bacteria: for adults, take 1 tablet (10 mg) at a time, 2 times a day, for 7 days, concomitantly with amoxicillin hydrate and clarithromycin. If the results are insufficient, take 1 tablet (10 mg) at a time, 2 times daily, for another 7 days, concomitantly with amoxicillin hydrate and metronidazole.

Please note that this medicine contains 10 mg of the active ingredient in one tablet.

As these tablets are enteric-coated, take them without chewing or crushing.

Rabeprazole sodium is a proton pump inhibitor helping to suppress the mechanism of gastric acid secretion in gastric mucosal cells and to decrease the stomach acid. By this, this medicine helps to treat Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (overproducing acid), to heal the various types of ulcers, including gastric, duodenal and anastomotic ulcer, and to relieve pain and heartburn associated with reflux esophagitis.

Studies showed that rabeprazole is a more rapid inhibitor of proton pumps than omeprazole, lansoprazole, or pantoprazole due to its faster activation (M. P. Williams, R. E. Pounder. “Review article: the pharmacology of rabeprazole”. Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 1999, August, 13 Suppl. 3: 3-10). This medicine helps to significantly decrease intragastric acidity on the first day of the treatment. Also, Rabeprazole Na tablets together with antibiotics are effective for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori as this medicine suppresses the growth and motility of bacteria.
