How effective are Metoprolol tartrate tablets 20 mg from Japan for essential hypertension, angina pectoris and tachyarrhythmia (Lopressor, Seloken, Metolar)?
Metoprolol is a selective β1 receptor blocker. It lowers the pulse rate, controls irregular pulse and decreases the blood pressure. This medicine features the following properties:
- A tartrate is the immediate-release version of metoprolol while a succinate has an extended release,
- Metoprolol tartrate tablets, unlike the succinate forms, suppress the excess activity of the heart, preventing angina attacks,
- This medicine prevents further heart problems after myocardial infarction and prevents headaches in patients with migraines.
Studies showed that metoprolol tartrate provides significant improvement in quality of life, ejection fraction, exercise capacity and decreases the need for heart transplantation (W. E. Chavey II. “The Importance of Beta Blockers in the Treatment of Heart Failure”. American Family Physician, 2000, 62(11): 2453-2462).
