Medical effect: Estrana tapes are effective for the treatment of female hormone decrease, including following diseases and conditions:

• vasomotor symptoms (hot flush and sweating) and urogenital atrophy symptoms associated with climacteric disorder,
• ovarian deficiency symptoms,
• postmenopausal osteoporosis,
• hypoestrogenism due to hypogonadism, gonadectomy or primary ovarian insufficiency.

Also, this medicine is used for adjustment of start time of regulatory ovarian stimulation in assisted reproductive technology and for hormone replacement cycle in freeze-thaw embryo transfer.

Contraindications and precautions: do not use for pregnant, possibly pregnant or breastfeeding women. Do not use for patients who have or are suspected of having estrogen-dependent tumors like breast cancer or endometrium cancer. Do not use for patients with a history of breast cancer. Do not use for patients with untreated endometrial hyperplasia, liver disorder or undiagnosed abnormal genital bleeding. Do not use for patients with a thrombophlebitis, pulmonary embolism or arterial thromboembolic disease (coronary heart disease, stroke, etc.) or a history of those diseases.

Avoid applying this medicine to areas with wound, eczema or dermatitis, to the chest or to the waistline.

If an allergic reaction occurs, stop taking the medicine and consult with your doctor. If you’re taking any other medication, please consult with your doctor before use.

Dosage and administration

1. For vasomotor symptoms nd urogenital atrophy symptoms associated with climacteric disorder or ovarian deficiency symptom: for adults, apply 0.72 mg of the active ingredient to the lower abdomen or the buttocks. Replace the old patch with a new patch every 2 days.
2. For postmenopausal osteoporosis: for adults, apply 0.72 mg of the active ingredient to the lower abdomen or the buttocks. Replace the old patch with a new patch every 2 days.
3. For hypoestrogenism due to hypogonadism, gonadectomy or primary ovarian insufficiency: for adults, start by applying 0.72 mg of the active ingredient to the lower abdomen or the buttocks. The doctor in charge may adjust the dosage according to the symptoms. The old patch should be replaced with a new patch every 2 days. For children, start by applying 0.09 mg of the active ingredient to the lower abdomen or the buttocks. The dosage will be increased step by step, to 0.18 mg, 0.36 mg, then 0.72 mg. The old patch should be replaced with a new patch every 2 days.
4. For adjustment of start time of regulatory ovarian stimulation in assisted reproductive technology: apply 0.72 mg of the active ingredient to the lower abdomen or the buttocks. Replace the old patch with a new patch every 2 days for 21 to 28 days.
5. For hormone replacement cycle in freeze-thaw embryo transfer: apply 0.72 to 5.76 mg of the active ingredient to the lower abdomen or the buttocks. Replace the old patch with a new patch every 2 days for up to 8 weeks of gestation.

Please note that this medicine contains 0.72 mg of the active ingredient in one patch.

How effective are Estrana tapes 0.72 mg from Japan (estradiol)?

Estrana tapes contain estradiol, an estrogen steroid hormone and the major female sex hormone. It provides multiple effects, including the regulation of the estrous and menstrual female reproductive cycles, maintaining bone density and female reproductive tissues. Studies showed that transdermal application of estradiol allows to avoid  first-pass hepatic metabolism, and while the efficacy stays the same as for oral and subcutaneous estrogens, this method has less adverse effects and allows to use a lower daily dose of the hormone (J.
