How effective are Zetia tablets 10 mg from Japan for reducing cholesterol level (Ezetimibe)?
Ezetimibe is a cholesterol absorption and vegetal sterol inhibitor that acts on NPC1L1 protein, the cholesterol transport protein in the gastrointestinal tract epithelial cells and in the hepatocytes. That’s why Zetia tablets effectively block the absorption of cholesterol from the small intestine and reduce the amount of cholesterol available to liver cells. This action stimulates the liver cells to absorb more cholesterol from blood circulation, consequently lowering the cholesterol blood level.
Who should use Zetia tablets 10 mg from Japan (Ezetimibe)?
Zetia tablets can be used as a monotherapy or in combination with statins in order to stop the progression of atherosclerosis and to reduce cardiovascular events. Studies show that ezetimibe is effective for the patients who do not achieve targets with statin therapy alone or have partial or complete intolerance to statins (B. Phan, T. Dayspring, P. Toth. Ezetimibe therapy: mechanism of action and clinical update // Vascular Health and Risk Management. 2012; 8: 415–427). Another important property of Zetia tablets is their safety and efficacy for patients with familial hypercholesterolemia, sitosterolemia, and insulin resistance.
