Theophylline is a xanthine derivative working as a phosphodiesterase inhibitor and a nonselective adenosine receptor antagonist. By this, it raises intracellular signal transduction, activates lipid metabolism and reduces inflammation by inhibiting inflammatory mediators and stabilizing the inflammatory response.
