Medical effect: Reminyl tablets are effective for slowing the progress of dementia in patients with Alzheimer’s disease.

Contraindications and precautions: do not use for the following categories of patients:

• patients with heart diseases,
• patients with electrolyte abnormality,
• patients with sick sinus syndrome,
• patients with a history of gastric ulcer or duodenal ulcer, gastrointestinal obstruction, lower urinary tract obstruction,
• patients with Parkinson’s disease or Parkinsonian syndrome.
• patients who recently have undergone an operation on the digestive tract or on the urinary bladder.
• patients with convulsive disorders such as epilepsy or a history of such disorders,
• patients with a history of bronchial asthma or obstructive lung disease,
• patients with liver disorder or renal disorder,
• pregnant or breastfeeding women.

As this medicine may cause dizziness or sleepiness, patient must avoid operating dangerous machinery, working at heights or driving a car while taking this medicine.

As this medicine may provoke the weight loss, a patient should take care of their weight changes.

If an allergic reaction occurs, stop using the medicine and consult with your doctor. If you’re taking any other medication or receiving any other treatment, you have to consult with your doctor before use.

Dosage and administration

For adults: start taking this medicine at dosage of 4 mg of active ingredient at a time, 2 times a day. After 4 weeks, the dosage will be increased up to 8 mg at a time, 2 times a day. The dosage may be increased by doctor in charge up to 12 mg at a time, 2 times a day, according to symptoms. The increase should be made only after this medicine has been administered for 4 weeks or longer at the preceding dose level.

Please note that this preparation contains 12 mg of active ingredient in one tablet.

This medicine should be taken after a meal as otherwise may worsen adverse reactions.

Reminyl tablets contain galantamine hydrobromide, a hydrobromide salt form of galantamine, an alkaloid obtained synthetically or naturally from the bulbs and flowers of some plants. It works by inhibiting the action of an enzyme catalyzing degradation of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter in brain, and facilitating nerve signaling. As the result, Reminyl tablets increase concentration, memory and cognitive function.

Reminyl tablets are effective for the treatment of cognitive decline in patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease. This medicine helps to delay the progress of such symptoms of dementia as memory impairment, problems in cognition of time and place and difficulty in making judgments. Cochrane Database review showed consistent positive effects for galantamine used by course of 3 to 6 months duration in studies enrolling more than 6800 patients (C. Loy, L. Schneider.
