Medical effect: Protecadin OD tablets are effective for the treatment of the following diseases and conditions:

• gastric, duodenal or anastomotic ulcer,
• reflux oesophagitis,
• gastric mucosal lesion (erosion, bleeding, etc.) caused by acute gastritis or acutely exacerbated chronic gastritis,
• need for an anesthetic premedication.

Contraindications and precautions: do not use for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Do not use in patients with renal or liver disorder or patients on dialysis.  

This medicine is designed to dissolve on the tongue by saliva. It may be taken either with or without water.

If an allergic reaction occurs, stop taking the medicine and consult with your doctor. If you’re taking any other medication, please consult with your doctor before use.

Dosage and administration of Protecadin OD tablets 10 mg from Japan for gastritis and ulcer (Lafutidine, Stogar, Lafaxin)

1. For gastric, duodenal or anastomotic ulcer and reflux oesophagitis: for adults, take 1 tablet 2 times a day, after breakfast and after dinner or at bedtime.
2. For gastric mucosal lesion caused by acute gastritis or acutely exacerbated chronic gastritis: for adults, take 1 tablet once a day, after dinner or at bedtime.
3. For anesthetic premedication: for adults, take 1 tablet at a time, 2 times; at bedtime of the day before the operation day, and 2 hours before anesthesia induction on the operation day.

The consulting doctor may adjust the dosage according to age and symptoms. However, the dosage for the anesthetic premedication should not be changed.

Protecadin OD tablets contain lafutidine, a second-generation histamine H2 receptor antagonist. It works by blocking the histamine H2 receptors on the gastric mucosa to suppress the secretion of stomach acid. Also, Protecadin OD tablets increase the gastric mucus, improve gastric mucosal blood flow, prevent injury from inflammation and block the attachment of Helicobacter pylori to gastric cells.

Protecadin tablets are effective for the treatment of gastric, duodenal or anastomotic ulcer, reflux oesophagitis and various gastric mucosal lesion (erosion, bleeding, etc.) caused by acute gastritis or acutely exacerbated chronic gastritis. Also, they are used as an anesthetic premedication. Clinical studies showed that lafutidine expressed prolonged antisecretion, healing effect against gastric and duodenal ulcers and gastritis, and its potency was equal or superior to that of conventional H2 antagonists (M.
