How effective are Pirenzepine Hydrochloride tablets 25 mg from Japan for gastritis and ulcer (Gastrozepin)?
Pirenzepine hydrochloride is a selective M1 selective muscarinic receptor antagonist. It works by blocking the muscarinic receptor of gastric parietal cells to suppress gastric acid secretion. At the same time, Pirenzepine Hydrochloride tablets increase the amount of gastric mucus and promote the defense function against gastric acid. As the result, this medicine effectively improves gastric erosion and bleeding in acute gastritis and acute exacerbation of chronic gastritis and treats gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer.
Who should use Pirenzepine Hydrochloride tablets 25 mg from Japan?
Studies showed that unlike other muscarinic receptor antagonists like atropine, pirenzepine has a lesser effect on salivary flow and virtually no effect on heart rate or gut motility (M. Feldman. Inhibition of gastric acid secretion by selective and nonselective anticholinergics // Gastroenterology.1984, 86, 361-366). That’s why it can be used for patients with heart diseases. Also, Pirenzepine Hydrochloride tablets have no effects on the brain and spinal cord as the active substance cannot diffuse through the blood–brain barrier.
