How effective are Mitomycin injections 2 mg from Japan for cancer treatment (antineoplastic, antitumor)?
Mitomycin is a naturally occurring antitumor quinone from Streptomyces caespitosus. It works by selectively inhibits the synthesis of DNA of cancer cells. While mitomycin C has such side effects as delayed bone marrow toxicity and a risk of lung fibrosis and renal damage, these side effects are limited when compared to other antineoplastic drugs. As mitomycin has a high molecular weight and is relatively hydrophobic, it has significantly less systemic absorption, making Mitomycin injections very wide-used chemotherapy drug.

Mitomycin injections are effective for the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia, chronic myelocytic leukemia, gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, lung cancer, pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, cervix cancer, cancer of endometrium, breast cancer, head and neck tumor and bladder tumor. Particularly, studies showed that early instillation seems effective in preventing tumor recurrence in low risk non muscle invasive neoplasms (A. Volpe, M. Racioppi et al. “Mitomycin C for the treatment of bladder cancer”. Minerva Urology and Nephrology. 2010, June, 62(2): 133-44).
