Medical effect: Flagyl tablets are effective for the treatment of trichomoniasis caused by Trichomonas vaginalis, infections with anaerobic bacteria (including skin infections, surgical and orthopedic infections, respiratory, pelvic, intraperitoneal, intrahepatic and intracerebral infections), infectious enteritis, bacterial vaginosis, amebic dysentery and Giardia lamblia infection.

Contraindications and precautions: do not use in patients with organic diseases in brain or spinal cord (except brain abscess). Do not use in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication. If an allergic reaction occurs, stop using the medication and consult with your doctor. If you’re taking any other medication, please consult with your doctor before use.

Dosage and administration of Japanese Flagyl tablets 250 mg (Metronidazole, antibiotic, antiparasitic)

• For trichomoniasis (infection with Trichomonas vaginalis): take 1 tablet 2 times a day for 10 days
• For infections with anaerobic bacteria: take 2 tablets 3-4 times a day.
• For infectious enteritis: 1 tablet 4 times a day or take 2 tablets 3 times a day for 10-14 days.
• For bacterial vaginosis: take 1 tablet 3 times a day or take 2 tablets 2 times a day for 7 days.
• For amebic dysentery: take 2 tablets 3 times a day for 10 days. The dosage may be increased up to 3 tablets 3 times a day.
• -or giardia lamblia infection: take 1 tablet 3 times a day for 5-7 days.

In each case, the dosage may be adjusted by the consulting doctor due to age and symptoms.

Each Flagyl tablet contains 250 mg of metronidazole, an antibiotic and antiprotozoal medication of nitroimidazole class. It works by changing to nitroso compounds in bodies of protozoa and in bacterial cells, and subsequently disrupting the DNA of microbial cells by the nitroso compounds. Flagyl tablets show good absorption in gastrointestinal tract and penetration in the multiple tissues and liquids of the body, including bones, liver, bile, saliva, pleural fluid, peritoneal fluid, vaginal secretion and cerebrospinal fluid.

Metronidazole is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines, being the safest and most effective medicines needed in a health system. Flagyl tablets are effective against various diseasis, e.g. trichomoniasis caused by Trichomonas vaginalis, infections with anaerobic bacteria (including skin infections, surgical and orthopedic infections, respiratory, pelvic, intraperitoneal, intrahepatic and intracerebral infections), infectious enteritis, bacterial vaginosis, amebic dysentery and Giardia lamblia infection.
