How effective are Eclar plasters 20 mcg/cm2 from Japan (anti-inflammatory, steroid)?
Eclar plasters contain deprodone propionate, a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid. It provides an anti-inflammatory effect, suppressing such symptoms as itch and swelling. This medication promotes the reduction in inflammatory response by inhibiting the leukocyte and monocyte activity and the reduction of plasma protease inhibitors, which promotes collagenase activity. By this, Eclar plasters effectively prevent the development and recurrence of keloids and hypertrophic scars.
Who should use Eclar plaster?
Eclar plaster can be used for both children and adults under the supervision of the consulting doctor. Studies show that deprodone propionate is especially effective for the prevention of scars in children, because children have thinner skin, and thus steroids are absorbed easier. Also, contact dermatitis does not tend to occur in children after the use of Eclar plasters (I. Goutos, R. Ogawa. Steroid tape: A promising adjunct to scar management // Scars, Burns & Healing, Volume 3, 2017).
