Are Arotinolol hydrochloride tablets 10 mg effective for essential hypertension and angina pectoris (Armarl)?
Arotinolol hydrochloride is a non-selective adrenergic antagonist with dual action on both α1- and β-adrenoceptors, while also exhibiting partial agonist activity at β3-receptors. This unique pharmacological profile underpins its efficacy in the management of cardiovascular conditions such as essential hypertension, angina pectoris, tachyarrhythmia, and essential tremor.
First synthesized and introduced by Sumitomo Chemical in 1979, arotinolol has since demonstrated a well-established clinical safety and efficacy record. The compound functions primarily by reducing sympathetic nervous system activity, thereby lowering systemic vascular resistance and myocardial oxygen demand.
For patients seeking a stable and scientifically substantiated hypertension treatment, arotinolol tablets provide a rational therapeutic option supported by decades of clinical use and targeted receptor modulation.
Mechanism of Action
Arotinolol exerts antihypertensive and antianginal effects through the following mechanisms:
- α1-adrenoceptor blockade: Induces vasodilation and reduces peripheral vascular resistance.
- β1-adrenoceptor antagonism: Decreases heart rate, cardiac contractility, and myocardial oxygen consumption.
- β2-adrenoceptor blockade: Modulates skeletal muscle excitability, reducing peripheral symptoms such as tremor.
- β3-adrenoceptor partial agonism: Contributes to metabolic and vascular regulatory effects, with minimal risk of excessive hypotension.
This multifaceted approach results in both central and peripheral cardiovascular modulation, offering sustained control over hemodynamic parameters without compromising physiologic nocturnal blood pressure patterns.
Clinical Efficacy
The therapeutic utility of arotinolol tablets has been substantiated by multiple clinical studies. In particular, the article “Clinical Trial of Arotinolol in the Treatment of Hypertension: Dippers vs. Non-Dippers” (Haiying Wu et al., Hypertension Research, 2001, 24(5): 605–610) demonstrated:
- Significant reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure over 24 hours.
- Effective control in non-dipper patients—individuals whose blood pressure does not decrease at night—as well as conventional dippers, without exacerbating nocturnal hypotension.
- Consistent therapeutic effect without blunting circadian rhythm-dependent BP variability.
These findings underscore the appropriateness of arotinolol tablets for patients requiring round-the-clock cardiovascular management, particularly in populations with altered diurnal blood pressure profiles.
Arotinolol hydrochloride tablets are indicated for the management of:
- Mild to moderate essential hypertension
- Angina pectoris (prevention of ischemic episodes)
- Functional tachyarrhythmias with excessive sympathetic tone
- Essential tremor, mediated via β2-receptor pathways in skeletal muscle
Due to its receptor selectivity and pharmacokinetic properties, arotinolol maintains a favorable safety profile in long-term use, with minimal disruption to renal perfusion or central nervous system function.
Summary of Therapeutic Advantages
- Combined α1 and β-blockade for comprehensive hemodynamic control
- Minimal risk of reflex tachycardia or excessive hypotension
- Reduces frequency and severity of anginal attacks
- Demonstrated 24-hour BP-lowering effect in both dipper and non-dipper phenotypes
- Also effective for peripheral β2-related symptoms such as tremor
For patients and healthcare providers seeking a reliable agent in long-term hypertension treatment, arotinolol tablets offer a clinically validated solution. Ensure optimal cardiovascular management with the precision and balance of arotinolol hydrochloride tablets—a rational choice grounded in pharmacological science.

Dosage and administration:
For essential hypertension, angina pectoris, tachyarrhythmia: adults should take 10 mg of the active ingredient at a time, 2 times a day. Your doctor may adjust the dosage according to your age and symptoms. If the effect is insufficient, the maximum dosage may be increased up to 30 mg (3 tablets) a day.
For essential tremor: adults should start with 5 mg of the active ingredient (0.5 tablet) at a time, twice a day. If the effect is insufficient, the dosage may be increased up to 10 mg at a time, 2 times a day. Your doctor can adjust the dosage at any time according to your age and symptoms. However, the maximum daily dose of 30 mg should not be exceeded.
Please note that this medicine contains 10 mg of the active ingredient in one tablet.
