How effective are Aricept tablets 10 mg from Japan for dementia?
Aricept tablets contain donepezil hydrochloride, a substance that inhibits an enzyme hydrolyzing the neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the brain. By increasing levels of available acetylcholine, donepezil partly compensates the loss of functioning cholinergic brain cells. In this way, Aricept tablets delay progression of the symptoms of dementia such as memory loss, repeated conversations and actions or impaired judgment (J. Knowles. Donepezil in Alzheimer’s disease: an evidence-based review of its impact on clinical and economic outcomes. Core Evidence, 2006; 1(3): 195–219).
Who should use Aricept tablets 10 mg for dementia?
Aricept tablets are used for treatment of cognitive decline in patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease and improved cognitive function in in patients with dementia with Lewy bodies. This medicine stabilizes the cognitive and functional symptoms and slows the progress of the disease. While donepezil is unable to cure the dementia completely, it can delay deterioration in behavior and mood and significantly lessen caregiver burden.
