Are Canalia combination tablets (teneligliptin, canagliflozin) effective for type 2 diabetes mellitus?

Package details: 100 tablets

Active components: teneligliptin hydrobromide hydrate, canagliflozin hydrate

Therapeutic effect: treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus

Canalia Combination Tablets for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

diabetes tablets are often prescribed to help people with type 2 diabetes maintain blood glucose levels within an appropriate range. Canalia combination tablets contain two active ingredients — teneligliptin hydrobromide hydrate and canagliflozin hydrate — that work through different pathways. By combining two approaches in one medicine, this treatment targets blood glucose control from multiple directions.

Type 2 diabetes develops when the body cannot effectively use insulin or cannot produce enough insulin to keep blood sugar balanced. Over time, persistently elevated blood glucose may affect blood vessels and organs. diabetes treatment often focuses on improving the body's natural glucose regulation mechanisms while reducing excess glucose burden.

How Canalia Combination Tablets Work

Canalia combines a DPP-4 inhibitor and an SGLT2 inhibitor.

Teneligliptin hydrobromide hydrate belongs to the DPP-4 inhibitor group. It works by preventing the breakdown of incretin hormones. Incretins are natural hormones released after meals that help regulate blood sugar levels. When incretin activity lasts longer:

  • insulin secretion increases when blood glucose rises
  • glucagon secretion decreases
  • post-meal blood glucose fluctuations may become smaller

Canagliflozin hydrate belongs to the SGLT2 inhibitor group. The kidneys normally filter glucose and return much of it back into the bloodstream. Canagliflozin blocks part of this reabsorption process, allowing excess glucose to leave the body through urine.

Because these mechanisms differ, the combination addresses blood glucose control from two angles at the same time. tablets for diabetes using multiple pathways may provide broader glycemic management than targeting only one mechanism.

Why Combining Teneligliptin and Canagliflozin Matters

Teneligliptin mainly supports the body's hormonal glucose regulation system. Canagliflozin focuses on reducing circulating glucose through the kidneys.

This complementary action creates several practical advantages:

  • supports glucose control throughout the day
  • helps address both fasting and post-meal blood sugar changes
  • combines two established diabetes treatment approaches into one tablet
  • reduces reliance on only a single glucose-lowering mechanism

The medicine was designed to improve glycemic control while working alongside the body's own glucose-regulating systems.

Research Findings About the Combination

Scientific research has examined how teneligliptin and canagliflozin perform together. The study titled Efficacy and safety of teneligliptin added to canagliflozin monotherapy in Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A multicentre, randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled, parallel‐group comparative study investigated Japanese patients whose glucose levels remained inadequately controlled despite canagliflozin treatment.

One interesting finding was that adding teneligliptin to ongoing canagliflozin therapy produced a greater improvement in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), an important long-term marker of blood glucose control. The improvement difference between groups reached approximately 0.94% after 24 weeks.

Researchers also highlighted that the combination approach worked by bringing together two distinct glucose-lowering mechanisms rather than intensifying only one pathway. This reflects a modern diabetes treatment strategy that targets different biological systems involved in blood sugar regulation.

Another notable aspect of the research was its focus on Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes. Researchers emphasized that treatment responses may differ across populations because diabetes characteristics vary between ethnic groups, making population-specific studies valuable.

Potential Benefits of Canalia Combination Tablets

diabetes tablets that combine multiple mechanisms are increasingly used because type 2 diabetes involves several metabolic processes rather than a single defect.

Potential benefits associated with Canalia combination tablets include:

  • improved glycemic control
  • support for insulin-related glucose regulation
  • removal of excess glucose through urine
  • complementary dual-mechanism activity
  • convenient combination of two treatment strategies

The combination was developed to help address blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes while utilizing both incretin-related pathways and renal glucose handling mechanisms. diabetes treatment often becomes more effective when multiple physiological processes are addressed together.

A Dual-Approach Option for Glycemic Control

tablets for diabetes may work through different biological targets, and Canalia combination tablets represent an approach that combines two established diabetes medicine classes into one formulation. Teneligliptin supports incretin activity and insulin response, while canagliflozin helps remove excess glucose through the kidneys.

This dual mechanism aims to improve glycemic control through complementary pathways, making Canalia combination tablets an option developed specifically for the long-term management goals of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Dosage and administration: adults should take 1 tablet at a time, once a day, in the morning, before or after breakfast.

Contraindications and precautions: Store in a dry cool place, out of reach of children. Do not use for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Do not use for patients with ketosis, diabetic coma or precoma stage, type 1 diabetes mellitus, infection or trauma. Do not use for patients in pre- or post-operative period.

This medicine may cause low blood sugar. Be careful when driving, working at heights, or using machinery that requires attention. If you develop symptoms of low blood sugar, take sugar (such as glucose tablets, table sugar, or soft drinks). If you also take an α-glucosidase inhibitor, use glucose instead.

This medicine may cause dehydration, so drink enough fluids. This medicine may also cause ketoacidosis, even without high blood sugar. If symptoms occur, contact your doctor immediately.

Do not expose to sunlight or heat. If allergic symptoms occur, discontinue use.
