Dosage and administration of Lunesta tablets 2 mg from Japan for insomnia (Eszop, eszopiclone, eszopiclon)

For adults, take 1 tablet at a time; for elderly patients, take 0.5 tablet (1 mg of the active ingredient) at a time; once daily, strictly before bedtime.

The consulting doctor may adjust the dosage according to the symptoms. However, the maximum dosage of 3 mg of the active ingredient for adults, and 2 mg of the active ingredient for elderly patients should never be exceeded. Please note that this tablet contains 2 mg of the active ingredient.

Take the medicine just before bedtime. Do not take the medicine if you need to get up to do some work after sleeping for a few hours. Do not take the medicine with food or immediately after meal.

Lunesta tablets contain eszopiclone, a nonbenzodiazepine, cyclopyrrolone and active stereoisomer of zopiclone. It works by acting on benzodiazepine binding site situated on GABAA neurons as a positive allosteric modulator. Lunesta tablets open the chloride channels, causing hyperpolarization, inhibition of neuronal firing, and enhancement of the inhibitory effect of GABA. As the result, this medicine causes hypnotic effect and allows for an induction of sleep. Studies showed that patients taking eszopiclone fell asleep faster, had fewer nightly awakenings, experienced fewer nights awake per week, and slept longer than patients in the placebo group (B. D. Unlike many other sleeping agents, Lunesta tablets are approved for the long-term treatment of chronic insomnia from chronic anxiety, depression, alcohol or substance abuse or withdrawal, medication use, or age-related changes in sleep. They work as a sedative and a central nervous system depressant. Eszopiclone has not been implicated in causing serum enzyme elevations or clinically apparent liver injury, so Lunesta tablets can be used even for patients with liver diseases, though with care.
